Ephemera is transitory written and printed matter not intended to be retained or preserved. The word derives from the Greek, meaning things lasting no more than a day. Some collectible ephemera are advertising trade cards, airsickness bags, bookmarks, catalogues, greeting cards, letters, pamphlets, postcards, posters, prospectuses, stock certificates, tickets and zines. Decks of personality identification playing cards from the war in Iraq are a recent example. In library and information science, the term ephemera also describes the class of published single-sheet or single page documents which are meant to be thrown away after one use. This classification excludes simple letters and photographs with no printing on them, which are considered manuscripts or typescripts. Large academic and national libraries and museums may collect, organize, and preserve ephemera as history. A particularly large and important example of such an archive is the John Johnson Collection of Printed Ephemera at the Bodleian Library, Oxford. From Wikipedia under the

Asked by Peter O - Fri May 25 04:20:27 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. Frankly, I think that the vast bulk of the bible is nothing more than myth. There is no archaeological evidence for anything in the Old Testament until well after the reign of King Solomon. And the New Testament? Really, all you can say is that there were Christians at some point. Many of the characters (such as Paul and Simon Magus) probably lived, though they didn't say anything ascribed to them in the bible. In fact, Paul and Simon Magus were very likely the same person. That said, I certainly wouldn't be surprised if the Ark of the Covenant were found. As it is described, it is a very common artifact. The Egyptians and the Babylonians talk about the exact same thing. All that said, you'd better not be saying Indiana Jones' hat isn't… [cont.] Answered by abulafia24 - Fri May 25 04:27:25 2007 What do you think about this quote by Michael Novak about atheism and the importance of accepting the.....?

I totally agree, and I think it takes a lot more character to hold yourself accountable to your fellow human beings in this life, rather than waiting for an invisible father figure in the sky to come and make everything all better.
