How do I make my 1990 Honda Accord lx 4 dr go faster and about how much would it cost?
Q. I just bought a 1990 Honda accord lx 4 dr about 6 month ago, and I have been recently thinking of tuning it so I can race my friends. I don't fell like spending more than two thousand on it, and I don't want go to a junk yard.

A. Get a manifold off ebay for a t3/t4 turbo for your car. Also get a t3/t4 turbo with an internal wastegate set to 7psi. Buy a cool sounding blow off valve like the turbo xs rfl (sounds like a whip) or a greddy type s. Get your local performance shop to install the kit (that will include 3" exaust, and a K&N intake system.). You could spend that much easily on just an exaust, intake, headers, maybe some underdrive pulleys, and a nitrous kit. The turbo kit will give you more power than that at all times for much less. Also you dont have to do any other upgrades at 7 psi. Then if you ever want to add more power you can do other upgrades (motor and fuel, larger valves, etc.) and simply turn up the boost untill your making 400 horse at the front… [cont.]

A. There shouldn't be a big diffence in this and next year's body style. The mid model change for the Accord should be in the 2011 model year.

how do i start a 91 honda accord without key?
Q. Okay, I bought a wrecked 91 honda accord so I could get the motor out of it. It didn't have a key and the title is lost. I want to start the thing so I know everything works before I go through with the motor swap. I don't want to wait through the title application process. Can I just break the ignition switch and start it? And exactly how would I go about that? Thanks in advance for all your help.
Asked by 1greezy - Sun Apr 11 12:26:03 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You would be shocked at the replacement cost of the entire ignition switch assembly - you don't want to break that. If you remove the lock cylinder from the passenger door a locksmith can use it to make a key - I almost had to do that a decade ago and the locksmith was asking $35 to make the key. However, it sounds like you don't want to do more than start the engine. You can do that by removing the ignition switch from the cylinder. See the first source for a pictorial that should be close enough to what you have (it's a 1990 Accord). Once you get the switch loose you can operate it with a screwdriver to start the engine.

Anyone know how to fix a 1996 Honda Accord spedometer that only works once in a while?
Q. Our 1996 Honda Accord spedometer works only sometimes, usually at freeway speeds only. Someone replaced one part for me (can't remember which part, but it was supposed to be the major one that all Honda's have trouble with) but that didn't make a difference. I've heard there are two major parts, and now I probably need the other one? I also hear this "other" part is expensive. Anyone here have a similar problem, or a mechanic that can explain it? Thanks everyone!

A. I had the same issue in my girlfriends 97 Accord Ex. I replaced the speedometer cable and all was well. After replaceing the cable I tore the old one apart and it was heavily corroded causing it to catch. The other part would be the vehicle speed sensor in the top of the transmission on the passenger side. On the automatics, some people remove the senser to top off the fluid,If it is not seated correctly or damaged this can cause a bad reading. Both of these parts should be available new on eBay for cheap.

How dangerous is it to drive a honda accord with 140,000 miles with the origonal timing belt?
Q. The 2000 honda accord still runs great, but I havn't gotten around to change the timing belt. I am waiting till I have enough cash to buy the water pump and the belt. But I am WAY over due for the timing belt change. Do you think I shouldn't drive the car?
Asked by Steven_K_Morookian - Thu Apr 22 10:00:42 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Get that belt done! Toyota and Honda are the biggest timing belt offenders, but here's the difference. You blow the timing belt on your Toyota, you get towed to the shop and pay for a timing belt replacement. You blow the timing belt on your Honda, you ruin your pistons and valves, so now you're either replacing much of the engine or getting a junkyard engine. The Honda's have what is called an interference engine, which means the pistons crash upward into the heads, damaging internal engine components, the Toyota has a non-interference engine, so the piston stops short of damaging everything. If you completely baby the car while driving, try to keep it running when possible to avoid starting it, and get the freaking timing belt done ASAP,… [cont.]

How much should it cost to have a 1999 Honda Accord door fixed?
Q. I recently got in a car accident where I hit another car. It was a 1999 honda accord door. The door is dented and needs new paint. How much around should it cost to be fixed? Would it be cheaper to just get a new door?
Asked by Jennifer T - Wed Feb 20 15:29:39 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Be prepared to pay $1,000.00 for paint and labor. It's usually not cheaper to get a new door unless the damaged one is really mangled, and a new door will cost a boatload -- you don't want to go that way unless you have no other choice.

Would the honda accord or honda civic be a better used car buy?
Q. I've heard honda accords and civics are two great reliable used cars to buy. You can find fairly new models for cheap. I've heard the accord is better then the civic in todays models but what about a 2002 or somewhere around there. Also I only have about 5000 to spend, is an accord still in that price range.

A. Alright a Accord is a few thousands more than a civic but with 5,000 the best thing to do is to look for a Honda Civic Ex not lx EX go on autotrader or go on msn and click on autos then select the year you like and can afford which you may buy a 2000-2002 Civic with 5000 cash and compare it to the accord or other cars that competes with it also if you compare it on msn sometimes they give you the wrong model trim remember ex is better because you have a faster car and a sunroof and more. Hope it works out

How to replace a rear view passenger mirror on 2002 honda accord?
Q. The glass and the mounting bracket came off the passenger mirror on my 2002 accord after an accident. The mirror console is still attached and does not seem to be damaged. My car is silver and all the replacement mirrors are black. Is it possible to buy the black mirror and remove the mounting bracket and the glass from it to install into the original mirror console.

A. Yes it's possible. All replacement mirror come in black because it a universal base color to any color, it's also to reach lower production cost. Unless you can find a same one at used part store, you only need a polish a bit of it.

A. The Accord EX-L looks very nice in black. I saw one a coupe black EX-L the other day and just last week i saw a black EX-L sedan at the Honda dealer while getting my Prelude serviced. Sedan: Coupe: The reason you don't see them being show off though is because black has become a played out color for Honda, more people are buying the gray/blue/white cars nowadays than black.

Q. 2006 Honda Accord EX has rough ride. Any after market struts or shocks which would make this a better ride? Would it be worth the effort for a small compact car? I have Goodyear Assurance P205/60R16 tires on the car. These could also be contributing to the problem?

Monroe "Sensa-Trac" Quick struts worked for me,front and rear. They come with new springs, isolaters and bushings completely assembled ready to bolt up.Your car is only 3 yrs old,I believe the EX model comes with a more performance orientated suspension than the LX or DX.The Goodyear "Assurance"is a premium top-of-the-line tire. You may want to check into Michelin "Pilot"series tires. After a Web search at NAPA,Rockauto and Monroe I was not able to find "Quickstruts" for your vehicle. However the replacement Cartridges are a available through Monroe and KYB.Good Luck

A. I had a 90 accord with that sport button. When it blinks, I believe it's an issue with the transmission, though, I dont know why that would cause a no-start condition. I recommend you ask this question on www.honda-tech.com, or just search on that site.

A. I had a 90 accord with that sport button. When it blinks, I believe it's an issue with the transmission, though, I dont know why that would cause a no-start condition. I recommend you ask this question on www.honda-tech.com, or just search on that site.

Q. What is the best car between 2006 Honda Accord and 2006 Chevrolet Impala? I am looking to buy a car. Since there a lot going on with the Toyotas, I changed my mind. What is the best car to buy between the 06 Impala and the 06 Honda Accord?

A. Actually the Accord gets better mileage, though the Impala isn't much worse. Hondas seem to last longer, not have as many problems, so that's what I'd get. But they're close enough that, really, it comes down to which you like more.

I have an 89 Honda Accord LXI and the front speakers are blown. Anyone know the easiest way to replace them?
Q. I hae an 89 Honda Accord LXI. The front speakers are blown and sound HORRIBLE. I want to know if anybody knows how to replace them. Do I need to remove the whole door panel? If so, how do I go about it? Thanks for any help I can get!

A. NO you do not have to take off door panels. There is 2-4 screws around the speaker, that will take off the cover. Then 2-4 that will remove the speaker itself. Waaalah!
