What questions can you ask an interior designer to confirm whether that person is really an interior designer?
Q. I have a person talking to me on the internet saying that she is an interior designer. Can any1 out there tell me some technical questions so that I can confirm that she is really one interior designer and not bluffing?
Asked by Gaurav Mehta - Mon Jul 7 05:42:07 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Hello there. For one thing, you can ask the person for a list of at least 10 of her most recent clients. Then you should meet her in a public place. Ask her to bring her complete portfolio... (of pictures) that is a fair representation of her work. The pictures should be prints... and not magazine pages ripped out. If you have her name and she tells you she is a legit business, you can call the Better Business Bureau in your city. Those are the best ways to not get scammed. And also... if she asks for a deposit before the work is complete... run the other way. Most reputable designers don't need to ask for money up front. Hope that helps.

What's the difference between a landscape designer and a landscape architect?
Q. What's the difference between a landscape designer and a landscape architect? Also, how do you become a landscape architect/landscape designer?
Asked by John M - Wed Jun 25 01:18:56 2008 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Well this is one of those questions where the answer has to be a bit vague... A landscape designer is someone that generally only works with plants and 'softscaping' only theoretically designing or including structures such as walls and pathways. A designer can provide you with a quite complex landscape plan. A landscape architect is more inclined to include very detailed information on the 'hardscaping' specifying details about the structure of a wall or paving. An architect will provide a highly detailed landscape plan drawn to scale & including specification etc. Add to this a landscape engineer who will add construction detail & absolute specifications (e.g. - pier holes to be 300mm wide by 500mm deep with 100mm bed of 20mm clean… [cont.]

Are designer jeans and shoes important for a modeling open call?
Q. I'm going to some modeling agencies next month and am planning on wearing jeans, a tank top, and heels but I'm not sure if I should break the bank on designer jeans and shoes. If you think designers would be important, I'd really appreciate it if you could give some examples of specific jeans and shoes that aren't going to cost too much.. they need to be simple but very fitted (nothing flashy). Thank you!
Asked by Ashley - Sat Jun 27 19:54:41 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Nobody cares what kind of jeans and shoes you have on. An agency is judging you by your height, body type and facial features, not how you dress. You just want a pair of jeans that fit you well so they can see your hips and the length of your legs - so any dark skinny jeans are best

Where to I start to become a Fashion Designer?
Q. I am in middle school and I really want to be a fashion designer. Where do I start, how can I get designer skills, and more things that will help me?
Asked by supershianne - Fri Mar 20 22:33:33 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Take some art classes. They are really helpful! I'm a senior in high school and it's my first year taking an art class and I regret not taking them earlier. Also sketch clothes. I've been sketching since I was 11 or 12. You can also take old clothes you no longer want and make new clothes with them. Learn how to sew. I sew by hand better than I do with a sewing machine. You can also look into designers and you can read teen vogue. Hope I helped!

A. Since you are still in high school, try to find a part-time job at a local print company (even something corporate like Kinko's) - this will familiarize you with many different technologies, such as plotters and software. This will also give you a good contact base for your future, as many designers bring their work to printers since their companies generally do not have these resources. As for colleges, ask each university you are interested in for a media packet on their art/graphics/new media programs. You can even do this with a simple phone call, and they will mail this packet to you. Any experience you can gain on your own is helpful. Try to get demos of computer graphics programs if your high school does not offer them. The… [cont.]

What do you think of hiring a interior designer for a new house?
Q. Just bought a house, find a bit lost at how to arrange and decorate. Thinking of going to professional designer. Has any one having used interior designer before?
Asked by Elainey - Tue Oct 30 18:32:30 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You mean you are not broke after buying the house? Good for you. If you have a LOT of money left over that you want to dispose of, a decorator may be your thing. They can be reeeaaal pricey. They also like to recommend very pricey materials and fixtures. However, some are capable if doing very nice things that will make coming home to your new place very pleasant. My only sage advice on the issue is to make sure that you and the designer are on the same wave length. Make sure you find one that is into making you comfortable with what you will have to live with when they are done. Picture this: Spending a bunch of money, the job is done, and a couple of weeks later realizing that you feel like you live in someone else's house. Some… [cont.]

What wedding dress designer would you recommend?
Q. I want a designer dress that is going to wow people and just look expensive- I don't mind buying second hand but definately want a designer. I like Maggie Sotterro, Ian Stewart. Does anyone know of any others? I am in the U.K but could ship a dress over.
Asked by Mojo - Wed Nov 19 11:43:34 2008 - - 19 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Don't pick based on designer - pick a dress based on what looks good on you. Try on many different options before you decide, don't just make a decision based on what you see on a website. For example, I think Jim Hjelm makes gorgeous dresses, but they are meant to be worn only by the skinniest, tallest, most model-esque women. I, a normal-shaped person, could put one on and look like I'd just picked up something at a thrift store, no matter how expensive the actual dress was.

How do I sell my new designer clothes to shops and dealing with them in the future?
Q. I am a clothes designer and produce my clothes in Sri Lanka. I wish to sell my clothes here in the local market. I would appreciate any advice on how to sell the clothes to shops and then collecting the cheques from the sales they make. However, from past experience they never give full payment of sold clothes until we collect all stock from the shop, how do I over come this problem?
Asked by d_bond74 - Mon Jun 16 06:41:48 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Most shop owner are willing to take in consignment provided yours design are same as their target group. You probably cant put funky t-shirt on their rack if they are selling executive suit. Make agreement with them that you will do a stock check & collect payment which ever is sold at the end of the month. Back yourself with your company agreement form, state quatity for them to sign & chop. When you doing consignment with new shop owner just put some to test out. There are really few bunch of unethical businessman out there, that alway drag payment or dont even pay. Dont ever do business with them again no matter what they offer. Gd luck business need time to test out & grow. :

How do I find out the designer of this home?
Q. There are like 6 of the same homes in the same block, and I really like the design (I would prefer to build it when I move to another city.) How would I go about finding the designer? Obviously I am not aquainted with these people and asking them would be rather creepy and weirdoish. I live in Brevard County, fl is it possible to find the builder, and then ask the builder if i could have the similiar design?
Asked by Ethan - Tue Apr 22 15:02:34 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Head down to the city and ask them who pulled the permits. They will be able to show you the blueprints, too. In our city, it is the building department, but I've lived in other cities where the Engineering or Permit departments maintain those files. Most of the time, you will see the architect or the builder and they will have contact numbers and addresses (which are sometimes out of date depending on the build date). Some cities/counties will charge you a copy for the blueprints, others will only copy the plans if you are the homeowner, but it is more courteous to contact the architect/builder to discuss compensation for their design.
